- אִסְכְּלָא, אִיסְ׳m. pl. (ξύλα, = σκέυη ξύλινα, v. Sm. Ant. s. v. Ships, a var. lect. quoted below) the wooden implements of a ship, oars, ladders, poles Tosef.B. Bath.IV, 1 he who sells a ship מכר את האיסכ׳ (some ed. איסק׳) sells implicitly the oars , (Mish.B. Bath. V, 1 מנהיגין); B. Bath.73a (Rashi אִסְכְּלִין, Ms. M. אסכליא, Ms. R. אסקלה, Ms. O. איסכלניא, read אִיסְכְּלִינָא). (Comm. ladders = scalæ.As to transpos. of כס, cmp. דוכסוסטוס.
